Dear editor,

This week, voting is open to elect the president, vice president, comptroller and Assembly representatives for the 63rd Legislative session of Student Association. Your vote matters! Student Association has the ability to enact meaningful and long-lasting campus change. This year, among other things, the 62nd Legislative session of Student Association has:

• Collaborated with a variety of organizations and departments across campus to execute events ranging from Mental Health Awareness Week to an election day watch party, from a food drive raising 120 pounds of food for Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry and Food Bank of Central New York to movie nights for students on campus during Thanksgiving Break.
• Worked to address pressing student concerns, from organizing a move-in for students displaced from The Marshall to helping to fund free STI testing to partnering with the Student African-American Society in order to foster important conversation through “This is Our Syracuse: A Forum on Public Safety and Student Life.”
• Advocated for increased visibility of information by providing a forum to discuss Invest Syracuse, promoting financial resources for students during the government shutdown and hosting educational events about the proposed federal Title IX changes.
• Increased student representation in university decision-making, with current or planned student representation on the University Lecture Series, the selection committee for the shared reading, the University Senate committee discussing changes to the academic calendar, the Barnes Center planning committee, the Chancellor’s Task Forces, the Schine renovation project and much more.
• Continued to advance mental health, working with the Counseling Center to reduce barriers in seeking help and continue to advocate for increased campus accessibility, advocating for an accessible bathroom in Crouse College and for better snow clearing on accessible ramps.

Though the year is nearly over, the work that the 62nd Legislative session has done will extend beyond the end of the year. Significant progress has been made on:

• Increasing the visibility of syllabi through online means
• Bringing a city bike share system to campus
• Developing a diversity and student life guide for first years
• Improving dining hall hours
• Examining affordability on a college campus
• Increasing the visibility and engagement of the Student Association
