Joe Giansante, Syracuse University’s senior associate athletics director and chief communications officer for athletics, is on administrative leave from the university, The Post-Standard reported Thursday afternoon.

Giansante served on the SU Athletics staff since July 2013. The move comes a day after Daryl Gross stepped down as director of athletics Wednesday morning and was reassigned to special assistant to the chancellor and vice president and adjunct professor. The Post-Standard reported Thursday morning that Giansante was no longer employed by SU and SU Athletics spokeswoman Sue Edson confirmed the report.

Giansante oversaw sports information, executive athletic communications and traditional media operations and contracts for SU in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference, among other duties.

Giansante traveled with the men’s basketball team to North Carolina State a day after the NCAA released its sanctions on the university, according to The Post-Standard.
